In early 2005 the growing entrepreneurial
investment advisory firm needed to explore their real
estate options. The
goal was to find a space that met their financial,
functional, and aesthetic objectives. After an extensive
real estate search, the firm selected 71 West Wacker
Drive. Located on approximately 50% of a single
floor, the space takes advantage of natural light and
view and supports frequent informal communication and
collaboration as well as formal client meetings. A
central zone was created to house shared functions,
located to allow easy future retraction and expansion.
Technology, including a trading area, is integral to
the design solution.
Of particular interest was the seamless integration of square elements, such as raised floor and ceiling tiles, into a round building. This challenge was overcome by creating slipping planes with subtle overlaps that converge at the pivot point of the building. Low furniture heights, a dramatic light cove and a curved feature wall draw the eye through the reception space towards the breathtaking views. |
